This Instituto Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC) site is located near Izaña at an altitude of 2398m on the island of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands off the west coast of Africa. The IAC is administered by a public consortium which includes the Universidad de la Laguna.

Some GONG Site Preparation History:
Arden Petri and Bob Hartlmeir were on-site the last week of September, 1994, as the concrete pad was being poured and as Teo Roca Cortés and crew were surveying the north-south line. December 1994, the instrument departs Tucson. The ship arrived in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on January, 1995, and the shelter and instrument were unpacked on-site on January 1995. First light was achieved on the February 17th, 1995; and here is the l-nu diagram to prove it.

Current weather information can be found at the IAC web site.
